Scissor Lift Rental for Ceiling Light Installation: A Real Customer Project
Installing ceiling lights can be a bigger job than it first appears, especially when you're working in a building with high ceilings. Getting the fixtures in place is only part of the challenge. You also need a practical way to reach the work area while handling tools, materials, and the installation itself.
One of our recent Service Rents customers rented a lift to install hexagon ceiling lights. After the project, they shared a photograph of the installation along with a five-star Google review.
We always appreciate hearing how customers use our equipment, and this project is a good example of why compact electric lifts are worth considering for overhead work.

A Real Customer Project: Installing Hexagon Ceiling Lights
Hexagon LED lighting has become popular in garages, workshops, detailing shops, and commercial spaces. The individual light sections connect to form geometric patterns across the ceiling, creating a distinctive finished appearance.
Installing a lighting system like this involves more than simply hanging a fixture. The installer needs access to the ceiling to position, connect, and secure the lighting components according to the product's installation requirements.
In this case, our customer used a Service Rents rental lift to help with the installation.
The customer, who posted a Google review under the name Zyki1, wrote:
"We used their lift to install hexagon lights."
The five-star review also mentioned our team's punctuality and the rental process.
The customer shared a real photograph of the project, which we're pleased to feature here with their permission.
For us, that's what equipment rental is about: supplying dependable access equipment so customers can concentrate on getting their own work done.
Why Use a Scissor Lift for Ceiling Light Installation?
For many indoor lighting projects, a compact electric scissor lift can be a practical alternative to repeatedly moving and repositioning ladders.
One of the biggest advantages is the work platform.
Instead of climbing down every time you need to reposition or organize materials, a scissor lift provides a platform where an appropriately trained operator can work with the necessary tools and materials, within the machine's rated limits.
Electric scissor lifts also have several useful characteristics for indoor projects:
- Electric operation: No exhaust emissions from the electric drive during normal indoor use.
- Vertical access: The platform raises toward overhead work without requiring the horizontal reach of a boom lift.
- Room for tools and materials: The platform provides space for appropriate supplies within the machine's capacity.
- Compact dimensions: Many narrow electric lifts can travel through commercial doorways when clearance permits.
- Non-marking tires: Common on indoor electric slab lifts, although floor conditions and protection still need to be evaluated.
These features can make a scissor lift useful for lighting installations in commercial buildings, warehouses, workshops, retail spaces, and other suitable indoor environments.
The important part is choosing a machine that actually fits the job.
Is a 19-Foot Electric Scissor Lift Tall Enough?
This is one of the questions we hear regularly.
When a lift is described as a 19-foot scissor lift, that typically refers to the maximum platform height, not the height of the operator's hands.
Our standard 19-foot electric scissor lift class offers approximately:
| Specification | Typical value |
|---|---|
| Maximum platform height | 19 feet |
| Approximate working height | 25 feet |
| Machine width | About 32 inches |
| Platform capacity | 500 lbs |
| Power | Battery electric |
Exact specifications vary by manufacturer and individual machine.
A 19-foot scissor lift may work well for many indoor ceiling projects, but don't choose a lift based only on the advertised working height.
You need to know the actual ceiling height, required working position, and any overhead obstacles. The approximate 25-foot working height is an estimate of operator reach, not a guaranteed comfortable installation height.

What Should You Check Before Renting a Lift for Indoor Lighting?
Before arranging a rental, there are several things worth checking.
1. Ceiling height
Measure the height where the work will actually take place. If the job is near the upper reach of a particular machine, confirm that the platform will provide a suitable working position.
2. Doorway and access clearance
A lift needs to fit through the entrance and travel to the work area.
Measure doorway clear width and height, including any obstructions from door hardware. Also consider narrow hallways, tight turns, thresholds, and ramps.
We've covered this in more detail in our 19-foot scissor lift doorway and access guide.
3. Floor conditions
Indoor electric scissor lifts are generally designed for firm, level supporting surfaces.
The building floor must be able to support the machine and its concentrated wheel loads. Special attention may be needed for finished floors, elevated slabs, raised floors, and areas with questionable structural capacity.
See our scissor lift weight and floor-loading guide for additional considerations.
4. Overhead clearance
Look for beams, sprinkler piping, electrical systems, ductwork, hanging fixtures, and other overhead obstructions.
The lift has to reach the work location without creating an unsafe situation.
5. Safe operation
Only properly trained operators should use the equipment. Follow the machine's operating instructions, use required protective equipment, stay within rated load limits, and remain inside the platform guardrails. Electrical work must be performed by appropriately qualified people, following applicable safety requirements.
If the lift cannot be positioned safely beneath the work area, a different type of access equipment may be needed.
What About Other Commercial Lighting Projects?
The same general equipment considerations apply to many kinds of overhead lighting and ceiling maintenance.
Customers may need elevated access for warehouse lighting, retail fixture replacements, garage lighting, commercial remodeling, or electrical maintenance.
Not all of these projects require the same machine.
A larger work platform may be useful when the job involves multiple components and supplies. In particularly tight locations, a compact vertical mast lift may be a better fit.
Service Rents offers both electric scissor lifts and compact vertical mast equipment.
For more information about equipment selection, see our scissor lift versus vertical mast lift guide.
Local Delivery Makes the Rental Process Easier
Transporting a scissor lift is not as simple as loading ordinary tools into the back of a pickup.
The equipment is heavy, requires appropriate transportation, and needs to arrive at the jobsite ready for use.
That's one reason Service Rents offers delivery and pickup for rental equipment.
We're a locally owned Central Florida rental company serving Orlando and surrounding communities throughout Orange, Seminole, Lake, Osceola, and Polk counties.
Our current standard 19-foot electric scissor lift rates are:

What Our Customer's Review Means to Us
It's one thing for a rental company to tell you its equipment is dependable and its service is good.
It's another to hear it directly from someone who rented the equipment and completed a real project.
We appreciate that our customer took the time to share a five-star review and photograph of the hexagon lighting installation.
The review highlighted our on-time service and showed how the customer put a rental lift to use on a real lighting project.
We understand that contractors and project owners have schedules to meet. When somebody rents equipment, they need it to be available, dependable, and delivered as agreed.
That's the kind of experience we're trying to provide every time.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I rent a scissor lift to install ceiling lights?
Yes. Scissor lifts are commonly used for overhead lighting work when the machine has the appropriate reach, the operating surface can safely support it, and the site provides suitable access and clearance.
Will a 19-foot scissor lift fit through a standard commercial doorway?
Many narrow 19-foot electric lifts are approximately 32 inches wide, but the actual clear doorway opening, machine height, turning space, and thresholds must all be checked. We can confirm the dimensions of the specific machine available for your rental.
Can electric scissor lifts be used inside a garage or commercial building?
They can be appropriate for indoor work on suitable firm, level floors, provided the floor can support the machine and the operating environment meets the manufacturer's requirements.
Do you deliver scissor lifts in Orlando and Central Florida?
Yes. Service Rents delivers rental equipment throughout its Central Florida service area. Call or text with the project location and rental dates so we can confirm availability and delivery pricing.
